The traditional clothing of the Sudanese people, in most regions of Sudan, consists of the jalabiya and shawl for men, and the thobe for women. This attire has long been considered the national dress, with roots tracing back to ancient civilizations such as the Pharaonic and Meroitic eras. It is widely worn across Sudan’s tribes in the east, west, and south. The style became even more prominent following the Mahdist Revolution. Although there are slight variations in design and style from one tribe to another, the essence of Sudanese traditional dress remains unified and deeply rooted in cultural heritage.
